I) BELIEVE AND ACHIEVE

Designed to better motivate students for future learning. (Ideal for Year 9/10 students as part of careers programmes, or senior transition classes)
Participants will:
- Be aware of the importance of positive thinking
- Be intoduced to the make-up and the extreme power of the brain
- Become familiar with the role of the left and right brain
- Have a much more positive attitude to their learning ability
TIME: 1 - 2 Hours

II) PREPARE FOR A CAREER

Designed for Year 9/10 students to begin making informed decisions about their schooling and future work or study.
Participants will:
- Look at the unpredictable career market
- Be aware of the need to keep on learning
- Be introduced to the enormous potential of the evolving teen brain                                                                
- Look at why there is a need to challenge it continually during these formative years

  III) THE BRAIN GAIN 

Designed for senior students to improve independent learning both in and out of the classroom.
Participants will:
- Discuss the differences between Skill-Based and Knowledge-Based Learning
- Look at the concept of the brain as a connecting machine
- Look at the power of multi-sensory learning
- Become familiar with ways to SCAR thoughts onto the brain
TIME: 2 Hours
(This seminar is also ideal for Year 12/13 students as part of their senior camp, leadership seminars.)

IV) TAKE NOTE!      

Designed for senior students who have previously done THE BRAIN GAIN, to improve note-taking skills with a particular emphasis on multi-sensory learning.
Participants will:
- Revise the concept of how to SCAR thoughts onto the brain
- Look at the power of keywords
- Become aware of the importance of clustering keywords
- Become familiar with the technique of mapping notes using mult-sensory techniques
TIME: 2 Hours

                       

 

V) DARE TO PREPARE

Designed for students to improve specific study techniques
Participants will:
- Be aware of the importance of overviews
- Become familiar with Brain Switch-Ons
- Look at the different ways the brain processes knowledge and skills                                                                        
- Discuss the importance of regular review and individual planners
- Look at various ways to study the different subjects

VI) GETTING THE BEST IN TESTS

For senior students designed to motivate and provide skills to become effective independent learners.
Participants will:
- Be aware of the need for regular revision
- Be able to easily connect previously unknown pieces of information
- Be aware of how to SCAR information onto the brain
- Look at ways to keep the brain focussed during learning
- Be familiar with the technique of getting and writing overviews
- Become familiar with the mapping notes using multi-sensory techniques
Time: 4 hours
(NB. This is a crash course looking at the main concepts covered in all of the above programmes. Ideally it can be done in the students’ own time either in the evenings, weekends or holidays)
